You want to lose some weight. You want to be ready to kick butt at that competition you signed up for. You want to PR your Snatch. You want that elusive ring muscle up. These are goals, right? And goals are great, don’t get me wrong. But they’re not going to get you to the gym every morning at 5:30 am. They’re not going to make you come to class early to practice that thing that you hate, or help you do those drills you need to do today, tomorrow, every week for the next six months.
Having goals and making plans, to your brain, does the same thing as exercise. It releases endorphins. It feels good to be planning on building a better you. But there is so much more to it than just an idea. You need to follow through with the process, not focus on the result. If you hate getting up every morning for months, years on end, then why do it for a single moment in time when you achieve your goal? It’s not worth it, and you subconsciously know that, so adherence disappears and you are left making plans again.
You need to fall in love with the process. You need to enjoy making tiny, incremental gains each day. You need to WANT to get to that training session or suffer through that workout with all your least favourite things in it. If you can genuinely enjoy that process and make it time well spent, you will find that motivation doesn’t exist. It’s all in your head, and your head can be a liar sometimes.
WOF is always open to new faces and we love to see people coming in and changing their lives. Are you ready to fall in love with the process? Don’t put it off – there is no “right time” unless it’s NOW! Come and check out our quality, fully coached sessions and see for yourself why so many of our members are here day in, day out, rain or shine.
I’ve never finished a workout and regretted turning up, but I’ve gone back to sleep and regretted not working out more times than I care to remember. Food for thought.
