My friend, Ryan, was doing a bootcamp at WOF and said it would be awesome for me to come try it out see if I would enjoy it. I turned up for bootcamp quite early, and saw how hard CrossFit looked. I had no intention of joining, and never thought I’d understand the movements or be fit or strong enough to actually do it.
I joined CrossFit after two rounds of bootcamp and a bit of positive encouragement from the coaches. They just convinced me I’d be fine and coached me through a transition course, after that I couldn’t stay away.
My first bright spot was probably being able to do double unders in a WOD. I’m working on a few things at the moment that I want to master: handstand pushups, handstand walks, kipping pullups, toe to bar movements but am also really interested in focusing on building size and strength.
My favourite memory so far would have to be Kris Hamilton in the open 17.3 getting that 61 kg squat snatch after not being confident to even try it, and going on to get 2 reps!
One thing people might not know about me is that I’ve had the same job at Kraus & Naimer in Miramar, since I left school when I was 17 (22 now) started in dispatch and have ended up in customer service and sales, basically just winging it with no qualifications.
