profile-samI was first introduced to CrossFit in 2009. It was while I was working in a small team environment that I realised big beach muscles were great to look at but limiting and usefulness.

One of my workmates took me through a CrossFit workout – ‘Fight gone bad’ which naturally destroyed me and from that point I was hooked by the CrossFit concept.

My background in fitness and training has been through competitive swimming (Age group nationals), Multisports, Rugby, and MMA (mixed martial arts), where I met my wife and co-owner, Anastasia. I was a swim coach for a swim school in Auckland for 5 years.

We moved to Wellington in 2011 and realised how much we loved the group training atmosphere. The normal run of the mill gyms weren’t challenging us, so in 2012 Anastasia and I joined TOA CrossFit in Wellington City. I soon found myself challenged and pushed outside my norms.

My love for the CrossFit scientific methodology and community  spirit flourished as I continued to achieve personal bests.

Ana2_003The intensity of the workouts, the results and the sense of achievement with the CrossFit workouts left me hungry to get back into the gym as often as I could.

It was at this point, that Anastasia and I started to envisage a CrossFit Box in Porirua that we could be proud of.

In 2013 I became a CrossFit Level 1 certified trainer.
