I started CrossFit after being at the gym for 5 months and loving it, my whole life I have been really active but after finishing school I started getting a bit lazy, my fitness was always good but my strength wasn’t there. A workmate had been talking about CrossFit for a while, so after a few weeks of contemplating I decided to contact WOF and give it a go. I haven’t been back to the gym since: no regrets.
When I turned up to my first class at WOF I was really nervous and anxious to see how I would compare next to the big kids, I didn’t want to make a fool of myself. I knew no one and I was really out of my comfort zone since I was so used to working out by myself. Everyone was so friendly and supportive and after a couple classes I felt totally comfortable and now it’s like being part of a big family.
My first bright spot was getting my first kipping pull up and handstand push up from the floor, they were two of my goals for the year and I didn’t think I would manage to get them for a wee while. Without the encouragement I got when I did give them a try I don’t think I would have been able to do it.
Right now I really want to be able to handstand walk for more than a couple steps. I’m also wanting to continue to get stronger and fitter and maybe one day I’ll be able to do a muscle up. I don’t have a specific favourite memory at WOF, I enjoy all my time there and I enjoy being with people who have similar goals and aspirations as me.
